Introducing Data for Decisions...
Thoughts and learnings about how we can build data-driven decision-making in organisations
Welcome to Data for Decisions! This is a space where I post learnings and discussions about making better use of data and experimentation within organisations.
I spent much of my career and research studying ways to strengthen evidence-based policymaking within the public sector (at the World Bank, the Government of Ethiopia/Overseas Development Institute, and my PhD research). This included papers on measuring information and flows and the effects of evidence briefings in bureaucracies (here), measuring time-use and productivity in the public sector (here and here), and more (here).
A couple of years ago, I decided to move into the private (technology) sector (Deliveroo and Meta), in Data/Research Science, to try and learn how these organisations collect, organise, and analyse data for decisions and whether some of these learnings could be brought into the public sector.
In these posts, I summarise what I have learned and present discussions I have had with others that have thought about and worked on this topic…
